Controversial dramas highlight French festival
If it's the role of CinéFranco to keep Toronto abreast of developments in French-language film, then the festival's opening and closing choices certainly fit the bill. Both Toi (You), the Quebec film that opens the festival tonight, and Un Secret (A Secret), the French film that closes it on April 6, are works that have garnered a great deal of attention in their respective jurisdictions, dividing critics and audiences, winning prizes and stirring up debate.
