Bear Mountain Resort is hoping to diversify its community by attracting a younger demographic with the release of condominium units at their St. Andrews Walk starting at $249,000.

"We've been very successful with key target markets across Canada, in the U.S., in Europe, and even the Middle East, where our strategy has been to reach out to high-income investors who are looking for the resort-style living and value that Bear Mountain offers," says Dale Sproule, Bear Mountain's director of real estate.

"But a community is made up of people of all walks of life - older, younger, with different incomes, at different stages of life, with different interests," he says.

"Making Bear Mountain Resort into a vibrant, all-season community means raising awareness of what we offer to those different demographics, especially young local people. Bear Mountain isn't only for the wealthy purchaser; it's accessible to many purchasers with many different lifestyles."

The development recently traded in its traditional conservative marketing campaign with the launch of a series of unusual ads aimed at attracting young people.

So far the "Shocking" campaign has been successful, says Mr. Sproule, with the first day of the launch being the development's busiest sales day in three years. "It's definitely getting people's attention," he says.

Besides stainless steel KitchenAid appliances, gas fireplaces, nine-foot ceilings and porcelain tile floors, purchasers at St. Andrews Walk share the same luxurious amenities as the high-end homeowners. St. Andrews Walk is set beside the eighth and ninth fairways of one of the development's Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, and lies just steps from Bear Mountain Village.

"The amenities, which target an active, social lifestyle - including a village centre right outside their door, restaurants and a pub within walking distance, a state of the art health club and the prestige of living on the edge of two signature golf courses - are something most young home buyers don't think they can get when purchasing their first home," says Mr. Sproule.

"This is a solid real estate investment for the first time buyer," he says.

Bear Mountain is just a 30 minute drive from downtown Victoria.
