Ethanol faces growing U.S. backlash

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Congress is rethinking its enthusiastic embrace of corn-based ethanol as food and fuel inflation pushes to the top of the political agenda.New York Senator Charles Schumer, chairman of the joint economic committee of Congress, complained yesterday that Washington's promotion of ethanol is one of the reasons Americans are now paying substantially more for bread, eggs, milk and a range of other groceries.
