Bungalows, two-storeys located on ravine site

Special to The Globe and Mail

Garden Homes has launched a development of large, luxury homes in Newmarket that the builder says will be the most prestigious master-planned community in town.

Called the Pride of Stonehaven, it will consist of 97 semi-detached houses and single-family residences on 36-, 50- and 55 feet lots at Mulock Drive and Leslie Street, about 30 minutes north of Toronto.

Treed streets will be lined with bungalows and two-storey houses, including some beside or backing on to a forested ravine.

There will be a variety of brick, stone and stucco exteriors available, with garages, porticos and multiple window styles, including round and Palladian.

The homes will have three- and four-bedroom designs with open concept layouts on the main floor.

Various plans will contain dens, combined or separate living and dining rooms, and eat-in kitchens that open to rear family rooms.

Laundry rooms will be situated on the main or second floors.

Architectural details include coffered and cathedral ceilings, decorative columns on half-walls and art niches.

Green features will be incorporated throughout to meet Energy Star standards. Low-E argon windows and increased insulation in areas such as walls and attics are expected to make the homes less drafty, and reduce utility bills. These houses will be 30 per cent more energy-efficient than conventional ones, according to the builder.

To commemorate 25 years in business, the builder has made updated features such as granite countertops with undermounted sinks, plaster cornice moulding in combined living and dining room and oak hardwood floors on the main floor standard in detached models.

Similarly, in semi-detached plans, five appliances, a gas fireplace with a marble surround or laminate flooring on the main level will be considered standard.

In addition, purchasers will get up to $7,000 in bonus upgrades.

Move-ins are expected to start in December.

Visitors to the site will find an established area, with schools, parks and local theatre.

Continuing development, however, has brought new amenities to the community, including the Magna Centre, which houses an Olympic-sized and three NHL-sized ice rinks, an aquatic centre and a gym.

It is a quick drive from the site to the historic downtown centre, big-box stores and malls in the Yonge Street and Davis Drive area, a GO Train station and Highway 404.
