308 seats now up for grabs
The 301-riding electoral map has been redrawn for the next election to reflect the latest 10-year census. As a result, new borders for ridings been been created while some have been created, others have merged and many have had their names changed. Ontario gets three more seats for total of 106, British Columbia gets two extra seats for 34 and Alberta adds two seats for 26. As a result, the minimum number of seats needed for a majority in the House is now 155.On the run again
From the four major parties, 80.2 per cent of MPs are running again. Including three independent MPs, that works out to 238 out of 293 sitting MPs at dissolution will be on the campaign trail again. (Number does not include vacancies.) Some interesting regional statistics: In Ontario, 76 per cent of Liberal MPs are running again. In Quebec, 86 per cent of Liberal MPs are running again. In Atlantic Canada a stunning 100 per cent of Liberal MPs are running again. Eighty-seven per cent of former Canadian Alliance and Progressive Conservative MPs iare running in Alberta; In British Columbia, it's 80 per cent.
