Alberta backs down on health care reforms

Caught in the federal election spotlight, the Alberta government did an about face on its much-touted new health policy Wednesday by taking a less aggressive stance on privatization and users fees. Despite comments last week from Premier Ralph Klein that some parts of the plan may violate interpretations of the Canada Health Act, the government on Wednesday steered clear of making any mention of privatization and promises consultation with Albertans before any changes are made.
