Foreigners snap up Canadian bonds

Foreign investors boosted their portfolio of Canadian securities in July by bigger-than-expected $3.7-billion, as they snapped up new issues of Canadian bonds, Statistics Canada said Thursday. The figure more than doubled the $1.5-billion median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Canadians also resumed buying of foreign securities, snapping up $587-million in overseas investments during the month. Issues of new bonds coming on the market reached $3.
