VANCOUVER, Sept. 20 — Faronics has released a new workstation security program called FreezeX. The software uses a whitelist technology to provide protection against spyware, key-logging programs, Trojans, viruses, root-kits or any other malware. It complements Faronics' Deep Freeze, the company's flagship workstation security software used in K-12 and higher education.
Faronics says that while existing security programs rely on a blacklist concept or heuristic techniques and antivirus software relies on definition files, FreezeX uses a whitelist. During installation, FreezeX performs a deep scan of the workstation and authorizes everything on it. From that point on, any other executable is deemed unauthorized and will not launch or install.
