Independence makes big gains in the boardroom

The boards of Canada's largest companies have become far more independent over the past two years, pushed by stronger rules, higher stakes and shareholder pressure, Report on Business's extensive third annual review of Canadian corporate governance practices reveals. Companies have made significant shifts in the makeup of boards and their key committees, appointing a far greater number of independent directors, the Report on Business review shows.
