McAfee to release new security appliances

Globe and Mail Update

RICHMOND HILL, Ont., Oct. 18 — McAfee, Inc. has announced the WebShield and SpamKiller 3000 series appliances, a new line of appliances in the secure content-management set. The appliances, which will replace the McAfee e250, e500 and e1000 series, offer up to a 100 per cent increase in performance, and an enhanced technology platform.

WebShield and SpamKiller appliances offer integrated, flexible technology to help businesses of all sizes optimize resources, increase productivity and prevent security policy compromises. The new series, which consist of the McAfee 3100, 3200 and 3300 appliances, include anti-virus, content scanning, anti-phishing and anti-spam protection at the Internet gateway.

McAfee WebShield and SpamKiller have a dashboard and configuration wizard that offers visibility to its health and information status, and SMTP transport logging, to help administrators in debugging, troubleshooting and forensic activity. In addition, the appliances are manufactured and supplied to McAfee's criteria by Dell.

The appliances integrate with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, providing IT administrators with graphical reporting on key virus activity at the gateway, detailed reports on content filtering rules that have been triggered as well as any messages that have been identified as spam. In addition, full virus trend analysis and reporting is available, ensuring the administrator always has a bird's-eye view of infections.

The McAfee WebShield and SpamKiller 3000 Series Appliances will be available from McAfee, Inc. and its channel partners on Oct. 29.
