Montreal — A wind-power producer based in Alberta will get almost $25-million in federal government funding, Natural Resources Minister John Efford announced Monday.
The $24.7-million for Summerview Wind Farm, near Pincher Creek in southern Alberta, comes after a commitment in the Throne Speech to address climate change and support alternative-energy industries, a news release said.
The $95-million Summerview Wind Farm has 38 wind turbines producing a total of 68 megawatts.
“We're proud to support the expansion of the wind-power industry in Canada through this new contribution agreement with Vision Quest Windelectric for the Summerview Wind Farm,” Mr. Efford said as he attended a wind-energy conference in Montreal.
“Wind power is part of our answer to climate change and represents significant opportunities for economic growth and new jobs. We want Canada to make the most of its tremendous potential to diversify its electricity generation.”
Vision Question Windelectric is a subsidiary of TransAlta Corp. and has said it wants to increase power production at the Summerview Wind Farm.
