PM rejects same-sex referendum

Ottawa — The proposal for a national referendum on same-sex marriage hit a wall of opposition yesterday as Prime Minister Paul Martin and the three other federal party leaders dismissed the idea, even as confidential Liberal vote counts indicate the bill to legalize gay unions will pass the House of Commons.
