Bush pledges 'tough' budget to rein in deficit

U.S. President George W. Bush has pledged to halve his country's deficit within five years. Mr. Bush promised Monday to bring in a tough budget in the new year that “fits the times.” “It's going to be a tough budget, no question about it,” he told reporters at a year-end press conference at the White House.
