Pettigrew defends Maurice Strong

Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew Monday vigorously defended Canadian special UN envoy Maurice Strong, who has stepped aside while being questioned in the oil-for-food investigation. Mr. Strong, a Canadian businessman, has not himself been implicated in the oil-for-food scandal, the investigation of alleged fraud in the $64-billion (U.S.) program under which Iraq's oil was sold to pay for food and other necessities while that country was under UN sanctions.
