Since the Liberal Party had its budget passed, winning a test of confidence, the Conservative Party is expected to hold to its promise to call a truce until after the House rises in June.
Conservative House Leader Jay Hill said Monday his party was focusing its attempts to bring down the government on today's vote. Failing that, Mr. Hill said his party would not likely push for another confidence motion before the summer recess. This would mean the Liberals would remain in power until at least the fall.
However, under parliamentary rules, the Conservatives could still try to table another no-confidence motion to bring down the government by the end of the month.
But, if the Tories wait until the fall to challenge the Liberals' hold on the House, voters would likely know the outcome of the Gomery inquiry before heading to the polls.
