Premiers told to temper comments on Jean

Banff, Alta. — Some premiers were urging the incoming Governor General to clarify her view of Quebec independence Friday, but the prime minister was asking leaders to be measured in their comments. Paul Martin telephoned federal Opposition Leader Stephen Harper and Alberta Premier Ralph Klein early in the day to express concern over their comments about Michäelle Jean's appointment.
