Windows XP search feature won't work

Globe and Mail Update

QUESTION: The search feature has stopped operating. When I click on search, an error window pops us, saying "A file that is required to run Search Companion cannot be found. You may need to run setup." Click OK on this window, and a full screen window opens up, unlabelled, with the standard menu labels (file, Edit, View, etc), but completely blank. Unfortunately, the software came loaded on the laptop, and the only way of reloading that I can find requires a complete reinstallation of the original software package from the recovery CD, wiping out all the programs, etc I have added in the last while; I don't really want to do that. I'm hoping for any suggestions you may have.

Regards,

Lennard Plantz

ANSWER: This issue is most often resolved by reinstalling the Windows script engine.

If you go to download.microsoft.com and search on "jscript" (no quotes) you'll find it.
