Adopted children to get citizenship sooner

OTTAWA — Canadian parents adopting foreign-born children will no longer have to wait up to three years for those children to become Canadian citizens under federal legislation to be introduced this fall. Immigration Minister Joe Volpe is set to make changes to the Citizenship Act to ensure the adopted children automatically become Canadians at the same time as the adoption is finalized.
