Harper, Layton trade barbs over election timing, strategy

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and NDP Leader Jack Layton sniped at one another yesterday over whether to push for a fall election.Mr. Harper said he is ready to defeat the government at any time but sees no point in trying until the NDP ends its support of "Liberal corruption." Mr. Layton countered by calling Mr. Harper an election-obsessed politician who is ignoring the issues facing Canadians.
