Human form of H5N1 flu not a given
On Feb. 21, 2003, Canadian tourist Kwan Sui-chu checked into Hong Kong's Metropole Hotel. There, likely on an elevator, she had a chance encounter with a doctor from mainland China who was infected with the still unknown disease Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Two days later, Mrs. Kwan was home in suburban Toronto. She fell ill and subsequently infected her son with SARS. He, in turn, infected another patient at a hospital.
