Canadians' trust 'betrayed': Gomery
The federal sponsorship scandal "subverted and betrayed" Canadians' trust in their system of government and former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien must shoulder some of the responsibility for the program's problems, Justice John Gomery said Tuesday.
In his long awaited report, Justice Gomery delivered a scathing assessment of the program, saying its irregularities and mismanagement were even worse and more widespread than earlier imagined.
