Networking a Windows XP PC with a Mac G4

Globe and Mail Update

QUESTION: I need to connect a Windows XP Professional laptop to my Powermac G4 and transfer or import wav. files either to my Mac desktop/folder or import directly to my Mac Pro Tools LE program. Can I network a PC to my G4 (OS X.3.1) and how can I do that?

Roger awrenson

ANSWER: Definitely do-able, all that's necessary is to set up a network and the Mac will see and be able to use the Windows Shared folder, and files can be copied from one to the other using that share.

Setting up the network is a much larger question, depending on many other factors. If the units are both going to remain connected for future sharing purposes, the easiest way would be to use a router. If for one time only to move the files, a crossover cable may be used.
