Ford's Canada cuts limited

Ford Motor Co. will eliminate one production shift at its St. Thomas, Ont. assembly plant as part of a massive restructuring that cuts as much as a quarter of the auto maker's North American work force.
The move is expected to wipe out more than 1,000 jobs at the plant, which employs 2,300 hourly workers, while 14 production plants overall will be idled by 2012.
