Quebec defensive as young Grits zero in on debt

Laval, Que. — Jean Charest's Liberal government was on the defensive Saturday after his party's youth wing demanded it tackle the province's $117-billion debt in the name of future generations. The party's youngsters, gathered with hundreds of other rank-and-file members at a general meeting, urged Mr. Charest to present a bill that would make it mandatory for the government to pay down a part of the debt every year.
