Canadian takes charge of coalition in Kandahar

OTTAWA — A Canadian general formally assumed command of the international coalition in southern Afghanistan yesterday as U.S. military officers warned of renewed insurgent violence in the months ahead."This mission is about helping Afghans," said Brigadier-General David Fraser, who has been on the ground in Kandahar for several weeks, but formally took over the military operation yesterday from U.S. Colonel Kevin Owens.
