Can't change screen resolution after Windows XP reinstallation

Globe and Mail Update

QUESTION: I had to reinstall Windows XP on my Dell, and now I can't change the screen resolution the only options I have in the control panel is the lowest resolution setting and 16 bit colour. I tried to download the driver from the dell website and it extract to the desktop but does not install fully. The model of the monitor is E773c.

Thanks,

Roni Glimpse

ANSWER: You need to install the driver for the monitor — you may have a disc that came with it originally ... or you can check on Dell's website in the Customer Service & Support section (choose Home and Home Office and then use the search box at the top of the screen for "E773c driver")

Sounds like the drivers for the video card are not installed. The Dell website should have the appropriate video driver (as opposed to the monitor driver) which should resolve the problem.
