Moving data from failing C: drive to create a new bootable drive

Globe and Mail Update

QUESTION: Hi there. I have a four year old computer running XP SP2. The C drive is relatively small, and sometimes has a bit of a rattle coming from it (perhaps signalling its impending doom). Is is possible to copy all of the contents from C onto a new hard drive and make that new drive my new C drive? Everything else in the machine seems to be running OK, so I'd rather not have to replace the whole thing if I can "simply" replace the C drive. Appreciate your help!

Murray

ANSWER: Yes it is possible to copy the data from one drive to another and have it boot, as I write this I am finishing up a system that I did just that.

It isn't as easy as doing a copy, you need software to do the copy. I used a program called Acronis True Image, and created a backup of the drive, installed the new drive and restored the image to the new drive and everything is the way it was.Nerds On Site Support Team and Globetechnology.com
