Can't connect to Internet

Globe and Mail Update

QUESTION: I have Thinkpad t20 laptop that can't connect to the Internet. I tried all ways, I think it's a problem with hardware. When I install the modem and network card they give me, sometimes I get an error 10 code message. Now my computer can't seem to detect the connection to the network at all. Please help.

ANSWER: I'm assuming the modem and network card they gave you are PCMCIA cards (a.k.a PC cards, about the size of a credit card but thicker and they fit in the slot on the side of the laptop)? Try them in another laptop if you can to make sure it's not a hardware issue.

If they work there plug them into your Thinkpad again and check the device manager (right click my computer either on the desktop or in the start menu, click properties, click the hardware tab, click the device manager button). If they are listed there uninstall them and reboot, you'll have another chance to install the drivers that came with them (which presumably worked on the other laptop). If you are supposed to run the CD before plugging in the card be sure to eject the card while rebooting (after uninstalling the device).
