Ottawa — Legendary gay rights activist George Hislop lived in poverty for years as he fought to receive Canada Pension Plan survivor benefits. By the time Ottawa cut him a cheque last summer for retroactive payments of about $20,000, he was too sick to take the Mediterranean cruise that had been his dream. And the fight wasn't over.
