Death clouds Afghan debate
Prime Minister Stephen Harper pulled off another high-stakes political victory last night when the House of Commons voted by a slim margin to extend the Canadian military mission in Afghanistan until February of 2009.
After the motion passed with 149 votes in favour and 145 against, Mr. Harper walked across the floor and shook hands with Liberal Opposition Leader Bill Graham, who supported the motion. Mr. Graham was defence minister when the current mission was deployed.
