  1. Ted Ens from Starbuck, Canada writes: I'm afraid the answer to Michial's question missed the mark. I too own a "stand alone" or a component Compact Disc Recorder/Player (CDR). It was purchased in about 2000. I has has always exclusively required either CDaudio or music for onetime recording only,or it requires as Michial noted CDRWs for music and I would add for audio. Indeed it has driven me to distraction explaining to yet another computer nerd what the difference is between any ordinary cheap CDdata/compter or a CDRdatacomputer and CDs CDRs that are specifically for audio or music
Now CDs for music may still be found in Winnipeg today. I just bought two hundred about 6 months ago at COSTCO. I am remaining in the hunt for CDRmusic/audios though. I have to believe they must still exist somewhere out there.
Meanwhile I continue to threasure my stack of 80 or so CDRS I do have which are great for swapping old vinyl including 78s,8tracts cassette tapes even personal recordings.Anyway please don't think cheap or even the most expensive CD or CDR computer disk will work.
And Hey If you can no longer get disks at all--sell me your mashine. Ted .
