QUESTION: I have an IBM Thinkpad notebook, 1.8 Centrino. I find when it loads up, it takes forever... urgh. How do I go about removing things that running in the back ground, or on start up that I don't need to be loaded at that time? Is there a tool that helps remove unnecessary applications that take up too much time/speed/performance, to a later time? What do you recommend to others to increase the performance of their notebooks?

ANSWER: Go to the Windows Start button. Choose "Run". In the window that pops up, type msconfig and then hit enter.
You can then choose your option. The Startup tab lets you control what gets loaded during bootup. Just don't uncheck anything you're unsure of, as this can disable important programs and services.
You can also go to the Start button, and under Programs, look for the "startup" folder. Remove anything you don't want to have loaded during bootup.
