Yzerman's farewell

A grateful and gratified Steve Yzerman determined that the timing was right yesterday to end a wonderful and productive career in which he spent his 22 seasons with one team, the Detroit Red Wings.
Yzerman, 41, played his final game two months ago, when the Edmonton Oilers surprised and eliminated the Wings in the opening round of the National Hockey League playoffs. But it took him 64 days before he could bring himself to hanging up his skates for good.
