Iraqi Kurdistan offers Washington no easy choices

In the Middle East is a small "country" that for decades has fought against surrounding states intent on its destruction. The "country" is a close ally of the United States and looks to the West for support. This sounds like Israel, but the description also applies to Iraqi Kurdistan, that part of northern Iraq that has been fighting the rulers in Baghdad since 1961 and has enjoyed de facto independence from them since 1991.
