First-timers dominate book-award short list

Montreal writer Dominique Fortier has received two nominations in the Governor-General's Literary Awards as the list of finalists was revealed on Monday. Ms. Fortier was named twice in the English-to-French category for her translations of one book on endangered languages and another detailing the life of a tree. The judges said the second book perfectly captures the lyricism of the English original.
