Hepatitis B, and prejudice, ravage a nation

BEIJING — When she was diagnosed with the hepatitis B virus as a young girl, Xu Nuo was treated with casual cruelty by everyone around her. Her teacher ordered her Grade 3 classmates to stop playing with her or talking to her. She was moved to a separate desk at the back of the class.
