Harper sets byelections for vacant federal seats
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper, defying opinion polls that suggest his Conservatives are slipping in the key battlegrounds of Ontario and Quebec, has called a pair of byelections to fill vacant Commons seats in both provinces.
In a terse statement Sunday, Mr. Harper announced that voters in London North Centre and the Montreal-area constituency of Repentigny will go to the polls Nov. 27.
