Harper sets byelections for vacant federal seats
OTTAWA Prime Minister Stephen Harper, defying opinion polls that suggest his Conservatives are slipping in the key battlegrounds of Ontario and Quebec, has called a pair of byelections to fill vacant Commons seats in both provinces.
In a terse statement Sunday, Mr. Harper announced that voters in London North Centre and the Montreal-area constituency of Repentigny will go to the polls Nov. 27.
