  1. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Vancouver, Canada writes: The Ontario AG states 'What is important to Ontarians is, in fact, when somebody does a crime in the United States you do time in the United States.' I guess Mr. Bryant is not aware of the prison transfer treaty between Canada and the US in which a Canadian (Ontarian) doing time for a crime in the US can apply to be transferred to a Canadian prison.
  2. L M87 from Calgary, Canada writes: Apparently this judge thought the year was 1800 when you could banish criminals to Australia or the New World. Thanks for that respectful and noble gesture you Honourable Doofus.
  3. M D from London, Canada writes: WHATEVER IT TAKES - GET THIS MAN OUT OF CANADA.
  4. Lisa Cook from Brantford, Canada writes: Good! The correct decision.
  5. Peter Walker from Calgary, Canada writes: It's about time.

    BUT

Will the US allow him to return with a criminal record. They may mistake him for somebody else and transfer him to Gitmo!!

Let them keep their own criminals and let them do the 3 strikes your gone thing!!
  6. Milena Edwards from Moose Jaw, Canada writes: Bravo for Dalton McGuinty and Stockwell Day! Canada is NOT a dumping ground for US sexual predators and thank goodness these politicians stood up to the bullies in the US who thought they could shuffle their jail problem off on to us. We may not have gotten an apology for Mr. Arar, but at least we've got some action on getting rid of this despicable sex offender. This guy doesn't deserve a break. If his wife and kids are Canadian citizens, let them apply to US Immigration and join him down there. Or maybe she'll have the smarts to divorce him. Anyway, a big thank you to two politicians who stuck to their guns and made sure this injustice was thrown back where it belonged!
  7. Paul who is from Vancouver, Canada writes: #1 - I guess you are not aware of the first sentence of the article which clearly starts out with ['The case involving an AMERICAN convicted sex offender']
  8. james mc from canada, writes: Paul who damnit you beat me to it.

just imagine if it had gone through, some people in the US may start getting some more ideas about sending prisoners to canada, and start testing out the limits, thankfully this american citizen can do his time in america.
  9. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Vancouver, Canada writes: Paul, I am fully aware of the case. Yes, this person is an American who has permanent residency status in Canada; which means that he has the right to be in this country.
  10. Bruce Starkes from Corner Brook, Canada writes: After all the years arguing Canada's sovereignty on territories above the 49th parralle there are still some 'learned Americans' that prefer to malighn us a an AMERICAN Penal Colony.. Just another rub to test the waters so to speak -- The Northwest Passage waters. Keep your pedifiles, bail jumpers and draft dogers south of the 49th...We have enough of our own problems without dealing with yours too.......
  11. G len from Halifax, Canada writes: Well, this is too bad. Now all the Al Qaeda sponsored terrorists that are in our jails will have to remain there. It would have been much cheaper to give them bus tickets to the border and let them be 'USA's problem now'. You know, part of the 'Our criminals are you citizens now' exchange program.
  12. R W from St C, Canada writes: If he wants, I can drive him to the border....he lives about 3 minutes from my house in St. Catharines. I wonder if he'll get a lot of trick or treaters tonight?
  13. Daniel Clarke from Canada writes: Apu you're absolutely correct that this person can apply to serve his time in Canada. But I believe the Canadian government has to agree to accept them. The US court didn't go through all of that, it just exiled him. Slight difference.
  14. Karen Laing from Kingston Area, Canada writes: I am pleased to see that the politicians are getting their act together and doing something about this situation. We do not need any more sex offenders in our country. To have the defense counsel minimize what he did and for men to think that it is a minor thing have never spent much time with someone who has survived it.
