MONTREAL — In the end, it wasn't even close. Michael Ignatieff lost his bid to become leader of the Liberal Party of Canada because he couldn't accomplish the one thing his campaign chieftains had promised they could accomplish. His much-vaunted machine on the convention floor failed to win delegates from any of the other camps. The Ignatieff team held the vote steady, but they couldn't grow it.
