Ziegel: Class Actions, remedy of choice for consumers

The Globe and Mail reported last month (Globe and Mail, Dec. 20) that eight Canadian universities and research institutes were to share $20-million as part of a class-action settlement involving five companies alleged to have engaged in price fixing in the sale of vitamins. The news was a welcome reminder that consumers are not the only ones to benefit from class actions. The lessons to be drawn from class actions are in fact twofold.
