I am an employer in a small business and have been part of the recruiting process as a potential employee as well. I think what would be useful is if a more in depth look at what the definition of "talent" is in the current workforce as a tool for identifying those potential quality employees that might have been overlooked by other employers. Of all the complaints I and my fellow managers have uttered you would be surprised to know that key lacking elements are; common sense, initiative and work ethic, not academic achievement or direct work experience. While the latter can be necessary they can sometimes be mitigated in part for those that employ the 3 elements. If prospective employers amend their interview processes to look for some of these qualities it might open more options for them.
