Cities: Top 10 population growth gainers and losers

OTTAWA — Top 10 Canadian communities with a population of 10,000 or more with the highest growth rates from 2001-2006, according to census data released Tuesday by Statistics Canada:

1. Milton, Ont., 71.4 per cent

2. Okotoks, Alta., 46.7 per cent

3. Airdrie, Alta., 41.8 per cent

4. Brampton, Ont., 33.3 per cent

5. Saint-Lazare, Que., 32 per cent

6. Vaughan, Ont., 31.2 per cent

7. Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., 29.5 per cent

8. Blainville, Que., 29 per cent

9. Grande Prairie, Alta., 27.3 per cent

10. Whitby, Ont., 27.2 per cent

Top 10 Canadian communities with a population of 10,000 or more with the biggest population loss from 2001-2006, according to census data released Tuesday by Statistics Canada:

1. Kitimat, B.C., -12.6 per cent

2. Prince Rupert, B.C., -12.5 per cent

3. Quesnel, B.C., -7.1 per cent

4. Terrace, B.C., -6.5 per cent

5. La Tuque, Que., -5.3 per cent

6. Edmundston, N.B., -4.2 per cent

6. Queens, N.S., -4.2 per cent

6. Kenora, Ont., -4.2 per cent

9. North Battleford, Sask., -3.7 per cent

9. Williams Lake, B.C., -3.7 per cent
