Silver Fern from Canada writes: There have been conjoined people for as long as there have been people. It was not a case of 'someone allowing this pregnancy go full term'. The decision made by the parents was to not surgically stop the pregnancy, and to give these children a chance at life. Who are we to debate whether or not this was the right choice? How can any of us know what choice we would make unless we are placed in the same situation? Think of the old adage of walking in anothers' shoes. This young mother seems to have things well in hand, and the babies appear to be growing normally. They are not tube fed, or relying on ventilators, or drugged to the eyeballs; they are doing everything babies of their age do. The only difference is, they do it connected to one another. One fused skull, TWO seperate brains. These children are baby girls living a life few of us can imagine. No-one in that family wants our pity and they especially don't want ignorance and derision; all they ask for is our tolerance and acceptance. One thing does intrigue me about the twins. Their doctor has stated they are not identical. Does this mean they are the result of a single egg which has divided prior to fertilisation, and then has been fertilised by 2 sperm, making them 'half-identical' twins; not quite monozygotic and not quite dizygotic, but somewhere in the middle? If so, the conjoined condition these babies have is extremely rare.

beth francis from vancouver, Canada writes: M Hud. Media whore? Where do you get that? If anything, she's been very restrained given the opportunities that probably presented themselves to her. In all the interviews and articles run by the globe and mail, she's presented herself as a very articulate and thoughtful woman who cares deeply about all of her children. As to Mr. Fijne, I'm not even sure where to start. Compassion might be a good place, but it seems that Mr. Fijne lacks that. I wish this family well; it's difficult being a parent in this day and age (as is evident from the unbelievably judgmental comments posted here) and for this family, it iwill be that much more difficult.

Snoop Doggie from Burlington, Canada writes: Shawn W from Toronto, Canada writes: This is truly a tragic story.
Get a grip. They are not the first and neither the last conjoined twins to be born. I am sure that given the chance, they will go on to lead 'normal' lives.- Posted 29/04/07 at 8:42 AM EDT | Link to Comment

Irene Cornwell from Morinville, Canada writes: I have enjoyed the positive comments posted here. I hope the mother can read them as she has impressed me from the very beginning. Her genuine understanding of a parent's role comes across the screen in her every gesture and comment.

Kim Morton from Canada writes: I know this may sound heartless to some but we must also think of the ongoing cost to taxpayers. Just because medical technology has made it possible to keep people alive when evena few years ago they would have died naturally does not mean that we can spend scarce health care dollars just to bring fame and fortune to a few doctors .
