Recent technology allows for study breakthroughs

Only recently have researchers had the technology to rifle through the whole genome for clues to common, complex diseases such as cancers, asthma and heart disease. Such conditions are believed to involve environmental factors and several genes, and finding them demands enormous population samples and patience.
Generally, it's a process of elimination.
