  1. X. T. from Waterloo, Canada writes: OK, let me add another point for fiddle head: Expensive

Why do those 'gourmets' always love expensive ingredients?
  2. Tom Henderson from Fredericton, Canada writes: $2.50 per lb. direct from the pickers or at the farmer's market.
$4 per lb. at the supermarket. The direct supply is better quality (and cheaper).

that's too expensive? What vegtable of quality can you put onthe table at $0.60 - $0.80 per serving (1 lb = 3-4 servings)?
  3. X. T. from Waterloo, Canada writes: hey, it's $4 here, if it is on special and sold at discount stores like No Frills. I usually buy vegetables at $2/lb or less, as I am Chinese and we eat more vegetables than meat. 1 pound is only enough for 2 in our house. :-)
  4. John Wood from Calgary, Canada writes: As an exiled New Brunswicker, I can state that fiddleheads are soul food and a deal at any price.
  5. David Hill from Ottawa, Canada writes: Fiddleheads are good eating and I've had themseveral times this spring already and have a new batch in the fridge. Every article I've read recently and everyone I've references on the net (looking for new recipies) says the fiddleheads should be boiled for at leasy 10 minutes. Reference is often made to the outbreak of salmonella in BC last year from eating undercooked fiddleheads. I wouldn't touch them were they cooked for only a couple of minutes and no.....they do not get soggy and tasteless boiled or steamed for 10 minutes plus. Good hunting and safe eating!!
  6. varun xm from toronto, Canada writes: I have to say I am loving this new voice-of-the-chef series in the G&M. And then... I am vegetarian and the focus on seasonal greens is just a joy to read (and to look at). Whoever thought this series up (Beppi?), take a bow.
  7. X. T. from Waterloo ON, Canada writes: OK. Then Chef X.T. should give you a series on how to eat well with reasonable expenses.
