gordon foster from Canada writes: No comments yet? I wonder why. Long-winded glad-handing seldom captures anyone's attention these days, especially when kicked off with a couple of eighties has-beens like Mecca Normal. Heck, I remember their photocopied A4 gig posters from Queen St. West!

Clark Kent from Canada writes: I've read Spin. I know who he is. My list of great Canadians Sci-fi writers would have him, along with Bakker and Erikson.

Mr Fijne from Calgary, Canada writes: The best kept secrets are those the gleube and other media never talk, care, discover, attend to, listen to, write about, acknowledge... until someone else's does.

leo bloom from radisson, sask, canada, Canada writes: Isn't being exalted by Stephen King as a great writer akin to being glad-handed by Jerry Lewis, say, as a great comedian?

MJ Patchouli from Regina, Canada writes: I saw Raghav on the Alberta Centennial celebration (2005) and thought he was very fun and charming, so I decided to buy his CD for my nephew, who is half old school UEL Canadian and half Indo-Canadian.
While Raghav was raised in Calgary, no record sellers there had the CD -- in fact it was impossible to find in Canada; I found it on Ebay UK and it was delivered to my door for about $18 CAD. Less than I can buy a CD here at a store.
My nephew loves it and I enjoy it too. He's innovative and really cute looking too. Indo-Canadian R&B. Imagine.- Posted 30/06/07 at 12:43 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Eric Kirkpatrick from Vancouver, B.C., Canada writes: So often we (including our Arts & Entertainnment critics) assume that if it's Canadian it's as Mr. McPherson fears. The rest of the planet obviously doesn't have those phobias. And just appreciates the talent.

ginny ! from lunenburg, Canada writes: Are Mecca Normal a well kept secret or simply past due after 20 years? And how credible is arts reporting that implies Fugazi, the ne plus ultra of Washington DC bands, is from New York?

Plain Jane from Canada writes: It'd be nice if the Globe could post photos of the artists they're extolling. It sort of shoots their 'we should care about them' argument in the foot if they don't even care enough to show their faces online.

Tobin Manley from The Bronx, NYC, United States writes: Anyone from Boston would be a bit confused at the
Boston Phoenix being referred to as the oldest 'underground newspaper'. It is as ubiquitous as it is essential to everyday happenings in town, RE: Village Voice in New England.
'underground' suggests rarity or subversion. While the later may be true, the former is not.- Posted 30/06/07 at 11:36 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Louise Pharand Doren from Toronto, Canada writes: 'CLIFF JONES - Musicals author and composer
From his start in radio with the CBC to the stage on Broadway, his musicals have featured Beverley D'Angelo, Brent Carver among many, and have been played as far as Australia but never in Toronto. He is librettist, lyricist and music composer. And one of Canada's best kept secrets.'- Posted 01/07/07 at 8:14 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bob McDonald from Canada writes: I just listened to some of the music from Mecca Normal. The amateurish discordancy is cliche so now, it just sounds like someone needs musical training. Also, the "messages" they are putting out are for kids. After that review and noting their maturity, I expected more. Listening to their work is a big disappointment. Maybe the Globe should do it's own reviews. Start with Muso, a Toronto band that just finished a tour of Europe.
