'Shake and bake' tech
When we unpack a piece of computer equipment, plug it in, and it works, we rarely think of how it survived the trip from the factory to its destination.
Sometimes it's a minor miracle. Anyone who's watched shippers bashing boxes around knows that they are seldom gentle. Sometimes they can't be bothered; sometimes it's of necessity I once cringed as a server on a dolly was bumped up two flights of stairs in a building with no elevator.
