Professor MM R from Stratford, Canada writes: It seems justice has finally been done in the case of Steven Truscott.
His resilience to clear himself over four-plus decades must be a world record. All Canadians should be proud of their judiciary.

Emma Hawthorne from Canada writes: Clearly the only reason Attorny General Bryant fought the Truscott case into its 50th questionable year, rather than agree, on consent, to set the finding aside, was that (unlike in the civil justice system where he would be expected to pay personally) in the cirminal justice system he expected and got a free ride. When the time come to pay Mr. Truscott's lawyers, his damage sand the damages of his family, Mr. Bryant will get another inexcuseable free ride, likely topping $20 million when all costs in the entire system are considered, he will simply stick it to the public. As every Canadian taxpayer knows, they are always holding the bag for inept government. The AG's mishandling of the Truscott matter is surely but Exhibit #1 of hundreds of egregious examples of misgovernance and waste.

R DOUC from Sudbury On, Canada writes: It's a contest between two lawyers and the best lawyer wins.
If Mr Truscott in i959 had lawyer Phelip Campbell at that time he would have not been convicted.- Posted 29/08/07 at 3:48 PM EDT | Link to Comment

Karin Pasnak from North Vancouver, Canada writes: I am so happy for Steven Truscott and no money that he will get will make up for 48 years of hell.
Yes he was free for many years, but I am sure he didn't feel free with this hanging over his head all these years.
Congratulation MR. Truscott!!!- Posted 29/08/07 at 4:10 PM EDT | Link to Comment

John Silverman from Canada writes: I don't agree with the question that implied Canadians don't have alot of faith in the justice system.
I do! I think the vast majority of people do. The problem is the media always sensationalizes the odd cases where justice isn't served properly, the the criminal gets a light sentance. But if you look at the broad picture it's clear Canada has one of the best, if the not the best, justice system in the entire world. There's really not much that needs to be changed, rather I think it's just a matter of keeping the laws up to date with the times (e.g., new offenses related to new technologies, etc.) Otherwise Canada is doing a great job with it's justice system.- Posted 29/08/07 at 4:36 PM EDT | Link to Comment
