Set in Romania in 1987 near the end of the Ceausescu era, Cristian Mungiu's spare drama begins with two college roommates, Gabita (Laura Vasiliu) and Otilla (Anamaria Marinca), who are making surreptitious plans. Gradually, we realize that Gabita is going to have her pregnancy terminated by an illegal abortionist (the title represents the length of her pregnancy).
