Poland warned on illegal cod catch

BRUSSELS — Europe's fisheries chief said on Thursday Poland risked legal action and sharp quota cuts next year if it continued to defy EU rules on permitted catches. In July, the European Commission ordered Poland to stop trawling for cod in the eastern Baltic Sea after the country misreported its catch and also exceeded its EU quota for the threatened species for the rest of this year.
